Mercury light product stewardship program delayed in Washington state

Implementation of a product stewardship program for mercury-containing lights in Washington state has been delayed over a lawsuit.  The Department of Ecology announced the program has been delayed over the lawsuit filed by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. The program was approved in 2012 and nearly 200 collection sites across the state had expressed interest in collecting the lights under the program.  Mercury-containing lights include compact florescent light bulbs, made popular in recent years for the reduction of energy use and long lasting ability.  By Jeremy Carroll
